New Music: RobinAugust – Ghost

Nashville born and raised, eighteen-year-old RobinAugust cites legendary female icons such as Alannis Morissette and Fiona Apple, but also rock acts Pink Floyd and Radiohead as influences. You can be sure then that Ghost is no folk or pop ballad!

Featuring Adam Schatz of Japanese Breakfast on saxophone, Steven Bowman of Counting Crows on drums, and Ben Graham of AutoVaughn on bass, you know Ghost is going to be quality, and the song doesn’t disappoint.

The funky beats of the intro smoothly flow into a full out bluesy rock song; RobinAugust’s vocal dexterity and power duelling in turn with a raucous sax and vibrant guitar melody. Its rawness amplifies the lyrics, bringing their message home to the listener in a direct yet relatable manner.

Speaking of the track and forthcoming album, the emerging artist said: “I really hope to connect with other people who are going through a tough breakup, or grieving someone who didn’t understand their big or emotional personality.” The record also serves as a form of therapy: “It’s basically my diary as an album,” she says.
