New Music: Soot Sprite – Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon

The title track of their new album, Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon encapsulates the vitality and varied tones and textures that make up the signature sound of Soot Sprite.

The Exeter-based trio often look to that iconic time period when alt.rock with serious messages, passionate vocals, and anthemic riffs filled ever-larger venues – something that should happen to Soot Sprite if there’s any justice in the world.

Though on paper the lyrics may have a hint of despondency about them, when delivered in the distinctive and dominating voice of Elise Cook, they become not just a symbol of defiance but of triumph – a determination to beat any odds the world places against you.

If you’ve seen Arcade Fire or The Cranberries live, that’s the kind of emotional and communal soundscape Soot Sprite create. Make sure you go to see them play live if the opportunity comes your way.

Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon is out on Specialist Subject Records and can be found on Bandcamp in vinyl, CD, and digital editions. The LP is also streaming on Spotify and YouTube Music.

Soot Sprite play Manchester, London, Brighton and more in the wake of the album’s release – check out their Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok socials for venue details.
