New Music: The Dead Milkmen – A Complicated Faith
The Dead Milkmen formed in Philadelphia in 1983. Since then, they have provided audiences with a high-powered and occasionally sardonic take on punk rock. A Complicated Faith sees them make a welcome return to the fray after a few years break – check out the song below.
For a band noted for their often-acerbic take on life, love, and sideways looks at history, A Complicated Faith shows their more serious side. Built on a tight rhythm section, autumnal tones, and a very Hammond-style organ to create layers of sound, the arrangement – and the lyrics – have a sombre and reflective quality. That serves up a highly effective, enjoyable, and surprisingly political take on the electro and indie sounds of Depeche Mode and The Cure. And best of all, it’s great music for a good cause!
You can buy a limited edition vinyl version of the single via The Giving Groove – it’s already on to its second pressing! Find out more about The Dead Milkmen, their music, and other projects on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The band hopes to release a new album—their eleventh overall, and first since 2014’s Pretty Music for Pretty People sometime in 2021. Girls Rock Philly will benefit from profits from the release of A Complicated Faith.
