New Music: The Empty Page – When We Gonna Run?
One of Manchester’s musical gems, The Empty Page consistently produce singles that are full of hooks, passion, and meaning.
When We Gonna Run? is The Empty Page at their best: full of punk attitude with a strong moral and emotional centre, as it threads melodic moments to guitar licks that sit between Sonic Youth and The Breeders.
Singer and bassist Kel shows the more vulnerable side of her vocals and lyrics here, even as the track seems tempted to veer towards a pop sensibility, underpinning the complex nature of the song and its message.

“It’s about clinging to a cinematic ideal of love as the only thing you can believe in, when everything else is crumbling around you,” says Kel about the track. “You’re just waiting for the word from this person you’ve put all your faith into. That tension. That anxiety. Like, are we doing this or what?”
When We Gonna Run? is the first single in a series of new releases the band has lined up, all of which were recorded at Nave Studios (a former church in Leeds) with producer Matt Peel (Eagulls/Dream Wife), and were mastered by Cicely Balston at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London.
