New Music: The Hannah Barberas – What Are You Celebrating?

Hailing from New Cross in South London, jangle-pop maestros The Hannah Barberas (we featured them last September, you might remember) follow the release of their Into The Wild album by dropping What Are You Celebrating? as a single. You can listen to the song below.

The track sees the band show another side to their sound from It’s Not Over for the Heartache. That jangle/C86 feel is still present, but the song eschews tales of love to look at aspects of modern Britain, with lyrics that are forthright without being polemical or preachy. That relatable quality is also present in the arrangement as it weaves alt.rock, hints of psych, as well as echoes of Chumbawumba into the indie mix. It shows that for all the fun of Into The Wild, there’s real substance to the band’s music.
