New Music: The New Division – Sequence
It doesn’t feel like a year or so since we covered Jealousy by John Kunkle’s The New Division. It’s great to have them back on the blog and it’s fair to say, we love the new single Sequence, which comes hot on the heels of their 2020 LP, Hidden Memories.
Sequence operates in a musical world of its own and is all the better for us. Indie, electro, and dreampop are fused together to whip up a sound that is gentle, yet when allied with the heartfelt vocals and lyrics, unleashes a storm of emotions and memories.
Sequence deals with bringing someone close to you back to where they belong, says Kunkel. He adds, “The song is really about being there for those we care and cherish. Everyone’s dealt with the pandemic in their own way, but many of us are still picking up the pieces left behind for others to carry onward. The song is also about myself in some sense. I spent several nights last year wandering empty streets alone, wondering where the world was headed and what the future held. Sequence is equally about caring for others and taking better care of ourselves.”
Sequence is out now and can be streamed or downloaded on all major platforms, including Apple Music, Bandcamp, and Spotify – click here to find out more. Head over to their Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter profiles to keep up to date with news from The New Division.
