New Music: Tokyo Tea Room – I Would

No Rush, the new album from Tokyo Tea Room, features twelve exciting excursions into soulful sounds, with I Would being a particular highlight.

Though tighter in terms of its arrangement, and lighter on psychedelic overtones, I Would has echoes of BALTHVS and Khruangbin in the way it exudes a calm, classy sensibility. The fluid mix of male and female vocals adds extra sonic and emotional dimensions here when compared to those acts, the track similarly allows the listener to enjoy more than a few moments of escapism.

In common No Rush as a whole, it also has a sophistication and maturity that makes it feel out of place in the current pop scene, but I suspect Tokyo Tea Room are – successfully – aiming to make music that will stand the test of time.
