We’ve covered the music of charly haze a few times now in 2025, so when given the opportunity to do a Track by Track feature for her new EP, we grabbed it!

Track By Track: charly haze – Poly Pop

POLY POP is five slices of divine electropop, often with one eye on the dancefloor and another breaking your heart, just a little bit at a time. If you like your sad bangers to work everywhere, not just in a club at three in the morning, POLY POP is for you. Thank you charly, for sharing this with us.

Half Wide Open

This is the first charly haze song that I wrote and it’s both danceable as well as devastating (which seems to have become my signature 😅).

It’s about the excitement of meeting a new lover, being full of hope and desire, but the other person not being ready to commit and withdrawing (“Why give me these options if I got nothing to choose? You’re holding my hand, but you’re holding it loose”).

Shake Off

I am a sucker for the lo-fi acoustic sound of bands like Day Wave and Hovvdy, it’s so melancholic and delicate and gets me right in my feels. Shake Off is a really delicate song created when I was peak heartbreak over someone that brutally disappeared on me, so I dusted off my acoustic guitar and started playing around with the blend of various instruments.

I wanted to encapsulate both the sensuality, vulnerability, and anger about what happened, as you can hear it getting darker and more tense as the song progresses. My favourite line in the song is ‘thought we were love drunk, but you’re 2 years sober’.

Busy Minds

This song is about the challenges faced when ADHD is a third in the relationship. I wanted to create space for the experiences of both characters, hence the choice for a duet.

Nuance and compassion were my priority in both the production and lyrics; the beat and vocals provide a steady yet gentle foundation, while the building tension beneath the surface reflects the struggles faced. The two POVs meet each other in a bridge that builds towards a bold and unexpected climax.

Wasted

Wasted is an introspective 160 bpm banger about living authentically and choosing whatever it is that works for me, no longer giving a f*ck about the expectations of a mononormative society.

Spend your whole life with ‘the one’? Cool! Get married and have kids? Nice! Be part of a polycule? Fab! Have two boyfriends? Wicked! Stay purposely childfree and navigate life solo with a bunch of wonderful connections, both platonic and romantic? Yeehaw! It might be unconventional, but I want to taste it!”

Out Of Reach

I love doing covers of songs from different eras; I did a rendition of Don Henley’s The Boys Of Summer on my first EP, and a friend of mine suggested I’d do this 2000s bop by Gabrielle.

I took influence from ’80s bands like Spandau Ballet, as well as more contemporary acts such as School of Seven Bells and Maggie Rogers.

POLY POP can be heard on YouTube Music, Spotify, Tidal, and SoundCloud. For artist news, be sure to follow charly haze on Instagram and Facebook.
