New Music: Twig Hands – HAPPY

Finnish outfit Twig Hands debut in considerable style and with a refreshing indie sound on HAPPY.

The Helsinki-based band brings out the warmth of 80s indie and post-punk, with a song powered by a 133 bpm and vocals that possess a typically Nordic happy-sad sound.

That double edge plays a large role in the overall feel of the track because, for all its upbeat melody and protestations of happiness, there is also more than a hint of melancholia in the lyrics. It pushes the song into a retro groove, triangulating the 80s pop-facing sound of The Cure with Kent’s anthemic highs and the rich sonic lows of early New Order. It’s going to be fascinating to see what Twig Hands serve up next, having already established such a distinctive, dynamic, and enjoyable sound.

HAPPY is streaming on Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Make sure you connect with Twig Hands on Instagram for band and music updates.
