New Music: Veradas – Hud Money

The title threw me initially, but not as much as the unbridled rock and roll noise of Hud Money itself.

And, to be fair, the sludgy, kosmische textures of the track, which is from Veradas’ Universal Relays album, don’t share a lot with Mudhoney musically; however, it does exude a similar outsider attitude, hardcore riffs, and a desire to make music that is entertainingly loud and lairy.

Hud Money features tribal drums, fuzzed-out guitars, and vocals that align more with 70s rock than with the 90s alt-rock of Seattle’s finest, with the song possessing a transgressive sensibility that’ll appeal to fans of Osees, Ty Segall, and King Gizzard. A whole album of this sound is going to be a blast!

“In the era I grew up in, I’ve seen how the digital world has driven a new stage of human evolution,” states the band’s guitarist, vocalist, and lyricist Travis Ferguson about Hud Money. “These lyrics come from the frustration, fear, anxiety, and addiction of the digital age. We all get pulled into the screens. It’s the new norm.”
