New Music: Wax Chattels – Efficiency

New Zealanders Wax Chattels’ sophomore album, Clot, is out on the 25^th of September via Captured Tracks and Flying Nun. Efficiency is the second single from the long-player, which promises to be a sonic highlight of the year.

A searing blend of post-punk and electronica, at times it seems to veer into power electronics. However, the song retains a distinctly open but deliciously aggressive fusion of the melodic and the abrasive. If you’re a fan of Rolo Tomassi or Atari teenage Riot, you’ll find Wax Chattels very much to your liking.

Band member Peter Ruddell says about the song, “Efficiency is about the frustration felt when you force yourself to bite your tongue, instead of escalating uncomfortable conversations into confrontations. It’s about biding your time, finding the right time and place to express your concerns – and with this song, it’s about coming to the bleak realisation that, more often than not, nothing will ever change.”
