Introducing: Dropper
Brooklyn, New York quartet Dropper featured on the blog late last year with their track, Don’t Worry. Their Don’t Talk To Me LP due for release next month, so we caught up with the band to chat about life, music, and the excellently titled Memoirs of Working in a Bowling Alley.
First up, could you tell us a bit about the people behind Dropper?
Dropper is me (Andrea- guitar & vox), Jono (drums), Yukary (bass) and Lawrence (guitar). Jono and I played together in a previous band and Lawrence is my younger brother so when I started working on these songs they were my first collaborators. Yukary plays in a ton of other bands and I’m pretty sure I met her at a show around the same time Jono, Lawrence & I began working on the songs for this record so the timing could not have been more perfect. She started jamming & recording with us and now that’s the band!
What inspires you to write music?
Being too broke for therapy & being bad at most other things!
Who would you say has had the most influence on Dropper’s music?
It’s not so much a who and more a cross between genres. I am very much into both sad girl shit & psych rock and try to incorporate both
What has been the biggest or most enjoyable musical experience with Dropper up to now?
Recording with Andrija Tokic at the Bomb Shelter studio in Nashville and touring with the Habibi gals!
What has been the most memorable gig you’ve ever played or attended?
Probably our show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during our last tour with Habibi. Just all around good vibes out there.
What was the last album or song you listened to?
I’ve been obsessed with Sloppy Jane’s most recent album, Madison.
If you could support anyone, who would it be and why?
My Chemical Romance because my 13-year-old self would simply die.
What other Brooklyn based bands or musicians do you feel we need to be checking out right now?
Activity, Habibi, Gustaf, Thick & Pure Adult are all very sick and worth checking out!
Memoirs of Working in a Bowling Alley by Dropper
Was there a specific inspiration or incident behind your recent single Memoirs of Working in a Bowling Alley?
Well, I’ve worked in the service industry for a long time and one job I had was working the desk at a bowling alley in Brooklyn. It made me hate people a little bit. It wasn’t the job itself that was terrible, it was really just the customers who would come in on the weekends. I was getting yelled at sometimes multiple times a night by drunk assholes on these shifts and it got to the point where I just did not want to be around people anymore even on my days off. I was just so emotionally exhausted.
What’s up next for Dropper in terms of music, gigs, videos…?
We’re putting out a new single AND music video January 21st! Our debut record will also be out February 11th (it’s available for pre-order at droppermusic.com btw ? )
Be sure to follow Dropper on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to keep up with news about upcoming live dates, and details on the Don’t Talk To Me LP. You can stream the band’s music on Spotify and Apple Music.
