New Music: There’s Talk – Lightleak

There’s Talk is an Oakland-based outfit fronted by multi-instrumentalist Olivia Lee, joined by collaborators Kellen Balla and Young Lee (guitar, vocals). Their new track Lightleak takes dreampop into unexpected but entrancing territories.

The dreampop tones of Lightleak are expressed through an electronic palette that is intricate and delicate, like fine lace, sensitively stitched together by Lee’s still, subtle vocal delivery. Think Beach House, M83, or the more reflective songs of the much missed Them Are Us Too, then you  get a feel for the contemplative, self-healing framework that Lightleak offers up to us.

Lyrically Lightleak exposes some of Lee’s deepest emotions. They say, “This song is about picking up the pieces of yourself after you’ve overcome something devastating. When you start to feel hopeful and see the light on the other side… encouraging, nostalgic dream pop for a younger self.”
