New Music: Loose Buttons — Sure Thing
Loose Buttons’ You Came To See Magic album has many sublime indie gems, and Sure Thing is among the best of them.
The New York band knows how to capture the ever-youthful 00s sound of the Big Apple, with the sweat, glamour, and grit of The Strokes, Interpol, and The Walkmen running through its left-field anthem vibe. Frontman Eric Nizgretsky has a boyish charm and quick-witted vocal delivery, with Sure Thing full of the sound of summer, friendship and possibly love in the air as he sings “Talk to me now like you used to / The music’s loud / I’m calling you,” while images of driving through the city at night flash before you. You don’t have to be in love to enjoy Sure Thing, but it might get you there if the magic is just right.
“We’ve been trying to pull the rabbit out of the hat for most of our lives, squeezing it into sub-three-minute songs and hoping it lands,” says Nizgretsky about the song.
“Somewhere along the way I realized that if you do that long enough with the people you love, it stops feeling like a trick. The people who are by your side through all of that, they become the ones you want around long after the lights go out. That’s the forever in it. You came to see magic.”
You Came To See Magic is out now and is streaming on Bandcamp and Spotify – connect with Loose Buttons on Instagram or Facebook for all the latest band news and more streaming options for their music.
