New Music: HIGH – Alone (feat. The Real Runna)

The Real Runna and HIGH have teamed up on the contemplative, emotionally complex number, Alone.

A track that sparkles with a shoegaze sheen in its opening moments, it soon explodes in a myriad of directions, exposing a heavygaze heart and a melody that evolves from a lightly coloured calmness to a math-like wax and wane. The Real Runna’s vocals glide over those sea changes, adept at tacking into dreamlike and gothic soundscapes – looking inwards but never taking the listener with her. That guiding light in the vocals is welcome, as the song tackles issues where we could all do with someone by our side.

They’ve said about Alone, “This song is an inner monologue about burnout, trying to cope in today’s world. Feeling like you need to be more, do more, create more. Like it’s never enough.”

“It’s easy to lose yourself while attempting to rise to someone else’s expectations of what your life should look like. And that shouldn’t be the end goal.”

Alone is streaming on Bandcamp and Spotify. For news about the track, and the artist’s individual careers, head to Instagram and follow HIGH and The Real Runna.
