New Music: Rainbow City Park – Valentine’s Day 1999

Rainbow City Park is Northern California quintet whose sounds explores the fluid boundaries where alt-rock and dreampop meet. It’s a winning formula, as you can hear on the folk-flavoured tones of Valentine’s Day 1999.

Though the band cites classic acts like Third Eye Blind and The Smashing Pumpkins as inspirations, Valentine’s Day 1999 works that alt-rock energy into a more modern take on the sounds of that era, while adding their own special dynamics.

The arrangement has a warm, light touch that will go down well with fans of Boy Genius, Frightened Rabbit, and Still Corners, while the Phoebe Bridgers style lead vocals will melt the hardest of hearts. The song’s title come from the birth date of Rainbow City Park vocalist Dani Judith.

The band has a series of live dates coming up in the next few weeks, including stop-offs in San Diego, Long Beach, and Los Angeles. Valentine’s Day 1999 and the group’s back catalogue can be downloaded on Bandcamp and streamed on Spotify and YouTube.
