New Music: Death Doula – Loom

Loom sees Portland, Oregon outfit Death Doula get in tune with nature and the effects it has on our body and psyche.

The band succeeds in capturing the spirit and vagaries of nature here, and expressing this in musical form. It’s also reflecting on the way nature not only alters our sense of physical being, but also the need to find a calm place within ourselves as heavy weather – literally and emotionally – swirls around us.

With its strong lyrics, dreampop tones and textures that are gently broken with some darker riffs, fans of Cat Power, Mazzy Star, and Low will find much of interest here. It’s a wonderfully emotive addition to the band’s slim but highly engaging musical catalogue.
