New Music: Wolf Twin – Feeling Strange
The dark pop with a rock flavour of Feeling Strange is a brilliant introduction to Best Days, the new album from Wolf Twin.
Nashville-based Wolf Twin has an ear for a melody and some classic pop and rock licks on Feeling Strange. It’s not easy to place in a particular place or genre, becoming an instant memory lodged in your psyche, creating a warm sound and an air of familiarity that makes you want to leap into Best Days straight away. The vocals of Heather Gillis have a lot of a young Alison Goldfrapp about them, innocent and knowing, as Wolf Twin leads us on an Alice in Wonderland style trip into a tight and pacy number that is a combination of psychedelic rock and smouldering electroclash.
It’s adventurous and agile, full of vocals and guitar flourishes that are fresh, the vocals light where the bass line is shadowed and heavier, drawing you in, and down the rabbit hole. A fine track, Feeling Strange succeeds in making you want to dive into Best Days, an album that is a sonic tea party full of delights.
Says Gillis of Best Days, “This album took a village, a lot of patience, and a whole lot of love. It’s yours now and I hope these songs find a home with you.”
Best Days is out now and can be heard on Spotify and SoundCloud. It’s also available to download on Bandcamp; for artist news and other streaming options, check out Wolf Twin on Facebook or Instagram.
