New Music: Low Harness – Salvo
Ahead of the release of their debut longplayer, Falmouth-based quartet Low Harness have treated us to the blistering sounds of the title track Salvo.
A healthy dose of dark and jagged post-punk is fused with atonal rhythms and honeyed vocals, with electrifying results. Primal and passionate, Salvo evokes the fuzzy logic of Sonic Youth and the hypnotic loops of My Bloody Valentine, sharp and squalling, and completely entrancing even as it seems like the track could combust at any moment.
It’s a vital and unsparing slice of music, as the sawtooth arrangement functions like an air raid siren, its tones of alarm seeking to wake us from our Tik-Tok induced slumber.

A stirring snapshot of the world we live in, Salvo is a vivid commentary on the role violence increasingly and openly plays in the way our world functions. It doesn’t seek to lecture the listener, however, but implores us to open our eyes and inspire us to action.
The Salvo LP is released via Krautpop! on the 6th of December and is now up for pre-order on digital and vinyl formats on Bandcamp. You can hear the single on Spotify and YouTube Music.
Says the band, “Salvo is quite literally about the violence that is served out daily to global communities. The tension within the song and dissonance of tuning helped create that energy. Political artist Peter Kennard who created the LP sleeve helped inspire the video with his analogue photomontage style. The video was created using black and white photocopy’s of stock footage and phone photos and turned into stop motion animations or animated collage.”
To tie in with the album’s release, Low Harness have lined up live appearances in Falmouth, Berlin, Exeter, Nottingham, and London. For venue and ticket details, hit up their Instagram page.
Salvo comprises Hannah Gledhill on vocals and guitar, Ed Shellard on drums, Martin Pease on guitar, and Alex Harmer on bass.
