New Music: TUUDI – Fallen Angel
An everyday event led London-based musician TUUDI to write the ethereal and emotionally moving Fallen Angel.
TUUDI has revealed that the track was written to a looped iPhone sample of a broken bike tyre hitting a bike’s frame in the wake of falling off a bike whilst travelling. It’s probably not usual for something as beautiful as Fallen Angel to come from such a mundane but painful moment, but we should be glad it did.
The strings – and the stillness of the melody – combine in the opening minute to allow TUUDI’s vocals pride of place in the song. With a power and phrasing somewhere between Elizabeth Frazer and Phildel, she gives the song a folkish lilt but also a strong organic core that will melt your heart, thanks to a song TUUDI revealed “follows a story of having faith in your own power.”
“I had a terrible habit of showing up to the studio with a song I’d written a day or so prior,” TUUDI says about recording the song. “For Fallen Angel, I sat curled up in a corner of the studio for an hour making a string section and had to run to catch my train home. I was so uncomfortable on the train because I was so excited to hear what it sounded like with the vocals.”
