New Music: Silverset – Fragile
Bay Area indie outfit Silverset follow up June’s Bend Don’t Break with the contrasting but equally entrancing single, Fragile.
It sees the band pivot away somewhat from the sound of Bend Don’t Break: that retro undercurrent remains, as do the smoky, edgy vocals of Nicki Fruth. You could view Fragile as its flip side, the rawness of the guitars tempered by the chilled tempo and the nocturnal beats of the drums.
That fire from June doesn’t completely leave the guitars, but as each individual component of Fragile is given room to breathe, you can’t help but notice – and absorb – how sophisticated the music of Silverset is. They attribute the genesis of the song to other sources, and they are here, but I can imagine fans of Air and Broadcast finding a lot here to interest them. It certainly builds up the anticipation for Silverjet’s new album, which is due to drop in early 2027. Dreams may be fragile, but Silverjet are made of sterner, passionate stuff.

The band says of Fragile, “This one came together in quite a unique way for us. We followed our trip-hop inspiration from bands like Massive Attack and Portishead and didn’t compromise or try to fit it into a box. The result: something a bit different for us.”
