New Music: Big Society – Guarantee

Big Society may record in Manchester, but the warm indie-pop tones of Guarantee are reminiscent of another musically inclined city nearby.

Guarantee is the third single from their forthcoming debut album, which was written and produced in their own shipping container studio at Pollard Yard in the Ancoats area of Manchester, a hive of musical activity in the city.

While the lyrics are gritty and sharp, the melody and vocals make no bones about wanting the listener to be absorbed into the world the song creates. And what a world! The main reference points I pick up on are Liverpool acts like Keyside, The La’s, and The Teardrop Explodes, as Guarantee is pop with a big sound, a big idea, and the confidence and skills to pull it off.

Lead vocalist and drummer Will Jacquet says about the song, “Guarantee is about taking a leap of faith, whether in love, friendship, or your own dreams. We wanted to capture that feeling of hope and uncertainty, and wrap it up in the kind of tune you can’t help but sing along to.”
