About the tracks
Being asked to curate a mixtape is always a welcome thrill for me – I’ve been compulsively selecting my favourite songs and putting them into a considered order for longer than I’ve been a musician (I started playing at age 9). In the mid-late 1990s there were few better after-school activities for me than to rush home and make another Jean-Michel Jarre / Vangelis playlist, carefully recording from my dad’s vinyl collection onto a few increasingly-battered C90 cassettes.
I’ve long since stopped trying to create the perfect playlist that encompasses all of my various influences and musical loves – there’s just too much drift and although there are always stalwarts, inevitably I’m seduced by whatever latest and greatest album I’ve just discovered (in this case, 9 by Pond). Therefore this playlist is a combination of some personal classics along with a reflection of what I happen to be listening to right now in late July 2022.

PS. A final note – as alluded to above, I’ve taken some time to arrange the tracks into an order which I think flows well and keeps the mix varied. I’d therefore urge you to keep clear of the shuffle button!
