About the tracks
I made my first mixtape when I was around nine years old. That was an actual cassette and I think I made liberal use of my boomboxes’ inbuilt mic to add my own harmonies to ‘My Girl’ by The Temptations. Not sure the friend I made it for was particularly impressed. Thankfully I have resisted the urge to add my own embellishments to this particular mixtape.
The theme is essentially artists who have in some way inspired the music I make as Debris Discs. I could easily have made this mixtape triple the length and I’ve had to cull some incredible songs, but I think what’s left is probably the essence of my sound. I’ve also limited it to songs I knew and loved before I started this project. Over the past four years I’ve discovered so much more amazing music from new and old artists alike. I try to remember that I’m a music fan as much as I am a musician, so I’m always looking for new musical discoveries. Hopefully you’ll find a few here too.
