New Music: mischa and the bear – Sing It

Even Unto The Next World is one of the best electronic pop EPs you’re likely to hear all year, and Sing It is a particular joy to listen to.

It’s a velvety mix of genres and eras, with notes of melancholia in the vocals and arrangement, even as the tempo of the song, and that oh-so-catchy chorus, seem designed to get you heading to the dance floor.

Perfectly crafted pop, fans of CHVRCHES and Purity Ring will find a lot to love in Sing It, and in fact the whole EP, as the Dublin-based duo create electronic music with real heart and emotion beating loudly at its core.

Says the duo, “Sing It is our favourite track from our debut EP, Even Unto The Next World. This track is a commentary on superficial or parasocial relationships in music.”

“There’s this pressure to be constantly palatable and perfect, and if you slip up or stop giving people what they want, they’ll drop you. It’s this weird, performative cycle where people claim to support you, but it’s conditional on popularity.”

“It’s about being ‘known’ by someone who collects people as trophies and pretends it’s meaningful when it’s performative. People think they know you just because they follow you or consume what you make, and they feel some kind of claim over you because of that interaction.”
