New Music: WILDES – Without A Heart

With her All We Do Is Feel album out next month, WILDES has dropped this gorgeous visualiser for featured track, the ballad-inclined Without A Heart (scroll down to see it).

WILDES (Ella Walker) wrote, recorded, and mixed the album with her best friend, Elena Garcia, and their shared vision has produced some truly singular music.

Without A Heart brings dream pop into an electronic realm, with layered banks of vocals rising and falling over the textured tones of the warm and ambient arrangement. Share this song with someone you love, or maybe that you want to love you.

“Of all the [All We Do Is Feel] album tracks, this probably took the longest to reach its final form. It wasn’t an easy song to get out. I really struggled to nail the production on it, and, in the end, I completely re-produced it, focusing on the intimacy and fragility of the verses and bringing in the vocoder choir to emulate that robotic coldness I was feeling when I originally wrote it.”

“It’s mournful, inevitable, and has a finality to it for me. I knew once I’d written and produced it, a door would be closed on my heartache, and it was such a relief to finally finish it and feel free from that sort of pain. That makes it all worth it.”

She adds about the accompanying video, “I spent 40 mins in a cold bath, swimming with dolls and daisies for the perfect shot. The biggest thanks to our incredible crew who brought this together, were patient with my breath holding and spluttering, supplied 40 Barbies and pulled individual daisies out of my hair!”

The All We Do Is Feel LP is released on the 12th of September, preceded by a listening party at Shai Space in London on the 10th of September. WILDES plays Paper Dress Vintage on the 15th of October.
