New Music: Aura Bora – I Wanna
The lead single from Aura Bora’s next EP, I Wanna has a Riot grrrl sensibility and a pop-punk energy that are wonderfully askew and sarkily positive.
I wouldn’t like to be the target of this song’s ire, as a litany of flaws, foibles, and felonies are given a full airing. Yeah, if you’re that vain and narcissistic, you’ll probably know this song is about you – and hopefully you won’t like that.
Jhune Liwanag’s vocals have a hint of vulnerability to them at the most sensitive points of the song, but the fire in her belly, and the lyrics, then take full flight; her verbal TKO is matched by the messy, punky guitars and percussion that make you want to get messy.
Share this song with someone you love, or even better, sing it at someone who has wronged you and let its cutting catharsis make your feelings obvious. Joy may be an act of resistance, but so is revenge as a means of self-expression.
Liwanag describes the song as “a mission statement for how I plan to project my life forward. The things that I want to see out of my future.” I don’t think you want to get in the way of Liwanag or Aura Bora!

I Wanna is currently only available to stream and download on Bandcamp and will also feature on the upcoming Aura Bora EP, Welcome To Heck. For band and EP news, make your way to Facebook and Instagram.
