New Music: soft siren – Low

Combining trip-hop with other genres isn’t easy, but soft siren do just that – and in style – on Low, from their upcoming debut LP.

A collaboration between three established artists with their own defined sounds – Sidewalks and Skeletons, CASHFORGOLD, and Michael Coe of Count the Clock – and that trifecta does feed into the track. The trip-hop presence defines but doesn’t dominate Low, as the track looks to the 4AD roster and American alt-rock of the 90s, refining that for modern times. Think Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star underpinned by Sneaker Pimps, with the vocals of CASHFORGOLD delivering us to the heavens; you’ll not want to leave the hazy embrace of Low.

Says the band, “Low is a self-referential cry for help in a world where identity is increasingly constructed through the gaze of others and mediated by screens.”
