New Music: Ruby Jones – Bad Ideas

It’s the retro feel of the arrangement for Bad Ideas that gives so much pleasure, and the opportunity for Ruby Jones to show what she can do.

The song draws from, but isn’t defined by, rock from the 60s to the 80s, a soft rock meets Americana ambience that nevertheless has a reassuring hint of familiarity to it. The tones do shift, but so do the vocals of Ruby Jones, rock with an intimate and folkish quality to them that dovetails nicely into the confessional and spiritual nature of the lyrics.

Bad Ideas, which will appeal to fans of artists as diverse as Chrissie Hynde and Joni Mitchell via Christine McVie, is available to download on Bandcamp.
