New Music: hemwick witch – Partners
Los Angeles duo hemwick witch – Maeby and Sue – have followed up their July self-titled EP with the doomy dance action of Partners.
Displaying a greater awareness of the dark club side of their music, Partners is propelled by a percussion and bass line combination that speaks of smoky dance floors and sensual encounters.
Vocalist Maeby brings a Ethel-Cain-meets-Zola-Jesus presence to bear on the lyrics, glacial and hypnotic, in keeping with the sparse analogue feel of the arrangement. Think Lebanon Hanover or TS/ST stripped down to their cold wave essence, poised and poignant in turn, then that’s Partners.

The track is set to appear on hemwick witch’s upcoming debut album, and can be streamed on Bandcamp and Spotify. For album news and further listening options, check out hemwick witch on Instagram.
