New Music: kamikaze – Stop the Sky

Cologne-based duo kamikaze initially marry laser-focused lyrics with an indie jangle on new single, Stop the Sky.

Indie music with a brooding side, the arrangement becomes increasingly complex and emotionally fraught, moving almost imperceptibly into post-punk textures, tying in with the bleak beauty of the lyrics. That becomes equally apparent in the vocals, as their sweet shoegaze-like tones make way for a performance that is like hearing someone harden their heart in real time.

It has an 80s echo, for sure, but when that invites favourable comparisons with The Cure and The Smiths, then that is a positive, reflecting the quiet catharsis of Stop the Sky.
