New Music: Retro Kid – Think I Know

Retro Kid – UK-born, Copenhagen-based electronic producer Jake Juba – reflects on fatherhood on Think I Know.

A marker for his next EP, which also marks something of a change for Juba and Retro Kid, Think I Know was inspired by Juba’s interactions with his three-year-old son, Billy. That’s an age when ideas, exploration, and certainty create a new world every day, not just for a child, but also for a parent.

Juba captures some much of that innocent joy here, acid jazz and electronica combining with ease. The lyrics and the muted tones of the arrangement in its totality serve to add an air of uncertainty, the steel guitar showering a light layer of melancholy on the song, and us. Think I Know is full of love, but also the little griefs, the ones where some connections become looser as the balance of a relationship changes, and others grow stronger.
