New Music: Hannah Lev x Retropxssy x Mel Hines – Keep it

Keep it sees Hannah Lev gets friends Retropxssy and Mel Hines on board to make this cut from her new EP a triple threat.

The opening track from her False Start EP, Keep it places itself between alt-pop, late-night R&B, and dancehall-infused trip-hop thanks to that team-up. The track eases itself in to the stratosphere by mirroring that trifecta in the arrangement. Sensual and smoky, the production accentuates what Lev refers to as her “spooky R&B” sound to the point where you’d be ready to add Keep it to your downtime playlists.

However, there is a twist in the tail, or is it tale, within the lyrics. Lev and her companions use the song to look under the hood of love, loss, avoidance, and guilt, honest but not heavy. Keep it ends with a kiss, but the trip to that destination isn’t straightforward, making it a stellar number on a thrilling EP.
