New Music: Dina Summer – Fuel
Berlin’s Dina Summer have an unerring ability to go for pure style while keeping substance as a foundational point in their music.
The band – comprising Greek-German duo Local Suicide and producer Kalipo – certainly haven’t lost any of the flair that made last year’s Girls Gang album an essential listen for fans of dark pop with a club-friendly beat. If anything, the engine of Fuel – an addictive fusion of 90s electro and old-school EBM – is smoother and more seductive than ever.
The imperious vocals of Dina give Fuel a Garbo-like air of mystery – the voice betrays nothing, stylish to the max, drawing you ever deeper into the web the song spins, as calm as it is ultimately combustible on the dance floor.
Fuel can be heard on Spotify, while an extended version, which has an outro that goes full-throttle, is available on Bandcamp via the band’s label, Iptamenos Discos. Dina Summer are set to appear at Cologne’s prestigious Amphi Festival this year – check out their Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram socials for updates.
