New Music: Wings of Desire – Just to Survive

As part of their 2026 plan to release a new track to coincide with the new moon, Wings of Desire have shared Just to Survive.

The Stroud-based duo sing of love and survival, both seemingly against the odds, as the protagonists of Just to Survive seek to escape everyday pressures and find somewhere just for them. I hear some very different influences within the song, ones that work well together here. It has something of Beach House and Still Corners in the vocals – and sometimes the arrangement – but there is a strong 80s indie rock infusion too, one that reminded me of Big Country and Deacon Blue at their most contemplative.

Speaking about Just to Survive, their fourth single in this cycle, the band calls it “a song about the primal urge to survive. One of the most basic human desires and the base on which we build. The weight on your shoulders. A fire in your chest.”

Be sure to watch the video, which features a very special part of the English countryside, in a way that quietly evokes the film with which the band shares a name.
