New Music: Ara Cristina Hernandez – BLACK HOLE

For Austin, Texas, based musician Ara Cristina Hernandez, some of the main influences on her latest single BLACK HOLE are visual, ones that, in turn, create their own music.

A sample of her IMMINENCE release, Hernandez uses the work of David Lynch, especially Lost Highway, a gritty and degraded VHS aesthetic placed within a gothic and darkwave setting. Hernandez has a voice that operates in a similar vein to Zanias, Chelsea Wolfe, and Bat for Lashes, alternate pathways and timelines firing off in multiple directions.

Hernandez has said that the song explores “a nightmarish scenario where a black hole swallows the earth,” and you can almost feel time and space bend around the weight of the arrangement and the mournful vocals before the track ends in a singularity of silence. If Lynch were still with us, he’d probably be finding a role for BLACK HOLE in his work.
