New Music: The Mosfets – Keith Is A Blues Artist

The Mosfets mine some unexpected old-school influences on Keith Is A Blues Artist, while serving up an indie banger that feels fresh and new.

It has a strong transatlantic presence, as it looks to the British blues explosion of the 60s and the American garage rock scene of the 70s to fuse their personal take on indie and rock. The Amsterdam-based band cites the likes of The Sonics and Them as having a role in the development of the song and its parent self-titled EP.

You can almost feel the sweat and heat that must have been generated in the studio when the song was recorded, and as much as it gets into a retro groove at times, the raw and instinctual nature of the performances gives it a vibrancy and lustiness that will never grow old.  

“Most of it just came from my love of songwriting and collaborating with my friends,” says frontman Keith Mosfet. “We did it for ourselves; it was fun. I’d do this 100 times.”

“We’re not trying to sound like The Black Keys or The White Stripes,” adds Keith. “We’re trying to sound like what they were listening to.”

“It taught me not to worry so much about polish,” Keith explains about recording the EP’s five songs. “Rough and raw is good. Our flaws are also our greatest strengths.”
