New Music: poptoken – Time Wasted

New York’s poptoken takes down our dependence on social media on the witty and constantly evolving Time Wasted.

You won’t be wasting your time by paying close attention to the lyrics of Time Wasted, their mix of reflective moments about the brainrot of TikTok shorts colliding with meme-able phrases like “Who’s eating my cookie?” seconds later.

The half-Russian, half-Ukrainian artist mixes coherence with chaos in the arrangement; poptoken punching some smooth grooves with sections that sound ripe for a dance of social media. They know they’ll fall into the same trap as the rest of us; every few seconds something new assaults our synapses and makes the most of that here, knowing that those same media platforms are needed to be heard in the modern world.

“Time Wasted is an electro-pop take on brain rot, procrastination, and the endless cycle of scrolling instead of actually living. It captures that painfully relatable feeling of watching hours disappear while telling yourself you’ll start tomorrow.”

Time Wasted can be streamed on SoundCloud and Spotify. Keep in the loop with all things poptoken by following them on Instagram and TikTok.
