New Music: Arcus – Survival
Survival by Arcus has a distinctive take on EBM and New Beat that flirts with dark scene aesthetics from a cinematic viewpoint.
Bringing many of the themes of its parent Carousel album to the fore, constantly triggering and shifting your moods and thoughts, Survival has shades of Front 242 in the way it utilises bass lines and percussion to set up a moody scenario.
With vocals that bring a brooding sensuality to bear on those stripped-down tones, and a melody that’s heading to the funereal, the overall effect is similar to Hante, Buzz Kull, and KOMPROMAT in how it creates a world that is monochromatic and moving.
Arcus describes Survival as a “heavy track to narrate an unexplained confinement.” He adds of the album, “[Carousel is] eleven tracks that will immerse you in unique moods and plunge you into dark or bright atmospheres.”
Carousel can be downloaded on Bandcamp and is streaming there and on Spotify. For further listening and download options, as well as up-to-date artist news, follow Arcus on Instagram and Facebook.
