New Music: BALDUVIAN BEARS – Joy

Salt Lake City’s BALDUVIAN BEARS see out 2025 with yet another excellent single, the icy post-punk of Joy.

With a bass line that washes a Joy Division style sombre presence over the taut, broad swathes of synths and dark jangle of the guitar melody, Joy elicits conflicting emotions.

Lyrically and vocally, it invites you to share optimism with the track’s protagonist, but the arrangement points towards a different conclusion – or rather a lack of resolution – reflecting that life is, at most, uncertain in many of the decisions we take.

“Not every escape leads to light! Joy is a bittersweet departure track, driving through night with the windows down and a heart full of doubt…it’s a reminder that sometimes we run not toward joy, but just away from everything else,” says the artist about the song, which comes out in the leadup to a 2026 EP.
