New Music: Caveboy – N.Y.P.

With their album Night in the Park, Kiss in the Dark due out in a matter of weeks, Montreal’s Caveboy have released N.Y.P. which is a teaser for what promises to be a cracking album. 

The trio channels a very 80s meets 90s energy on the track at times. Hints of Italo and Pet Shop Boys can be heard, but filtered through a dreamy and often sensual frame. The vocals have a similar flow and feel to La Roux and Little Dragon, but for all that the song is not weighed down by its retro and pop roots. In fact, it has a dark and dangerous edge to it, like a knife wrapped in silk, which makes it sound very current and catchy.

Caveboy had this to say about the meaning behind the lyrics of the song: “N.Y.P. is about possession and greed. It’s the dark feelings you don’t want to talk about that pull you in and give you pleasure. The pleasure in the pain.”
