New Music: Child of Night – Controlled Burn

Political in the personal and wider sense, Controlled Burn sees the welcome return of Columbus/Brooklyn outfit, Child of Night.

Their sound has developed since 2023’s The Fool EP, even as the smooth dark wave tones reminiscent of Martial Canterel and Cold Cave still play a role. Controlled Burn plays more into EBM and dark electronic dance; stripped down and often sensual.

Especially notable, however, is how the vocals of Niabi Aquena seem freer and more willing to let emotions out and the world in. I hope we hear more of Child of Night in 2026, and fans of Ari Mason, Pixel Grip, and Zanias would do well to keep on the alert, too.

States the band about their new track, “Controlled Burn is an examination of what it’s like to love in the modern world, under the shadow of total imperial collapse.”
