New Music: Club 8 – Honestly

Stockholm’s Club 8 have got their brand of indie pop down to a fine art, even as they still take risks along the way.

Karolina Komstedt brings us back to our youth, her vocals vulnerable when the song looks back, uncertainty playing against the wistful strings and hurried acoustic guitar. There’s a busyness about Honestly – it flies back so quickly – that you’re left wanting more, even as you try to process the lyrics.

Komstedt and fellow Club 8-er Johan Angergård have whittled down indie/dreampop to its basics; bittersweet vocals, witty lyrics, and catchy melodies; a combination that they then expand into a reimagined 60s-meets-80s arrangement.
