Grönland Records have released the Boys Noize remix of DAF’s 1981 track Als wär’s das
letzte Mal alongside a video directed and produced by artist SNEAKi. As part of the launch, Grönland has announced a strictly limited edition 12-inch vinyl, with only 140 hand numbered units available through their online store.
Known worldwide as the “godfathers of techno,” DAF are also recognized as pioneers of EBM and the forefathers of electropunk. The group released four albums in a short time span between 1980 and 1982, and that those albums had a huge impact on music worldwide. The remix is a precursor to Das is DAF, a box set released September 29th that demonstrates why DAF, along with Kraftwerk and Can, have earned their place in German electronic music history.
Sequencers, synthesizers, commanding drum beats and the most cutting staccato spoken-word vocals – very few bands have managed to contrive their own aesthetic in such masterly fashion, and to even make it a subject of their work: Was ziehst du an heut nacht?, Verehrt euren Haarschnitt, Tanz den Mussolini.
DAF remain the darkest and hardest driving musical imperative ever to come out of Germany.
