New Music: Darkstates – Single Cell (feat. Glückskind)

Reminiscent at times of James Blake and The xx, Single Cell by North London producer Darkstates is both experimental electronica and also club friendly.

It pushes their textures and rhythms into flows and beats that are verging on post-rock, even as the vocals and arrangement always retain a dance music flavour. The overall impression, then, is similar to Burial and Moderat at their most thoughtful and vocal-led, as hints of a dark euphoria to come tantalise the listener throughout.
