New Music: Dasi – Watching You Fall

The opening track on their self-titled album, Watching You Fall is a wonderful introduction to the sound of Dasi.

The track is a perfect fusion of east meets west, but also makes a crucial stopover on the way. The song has a strong indie rock strand within the arrangement, and also in the vocals. There’s a hint of classical Indian music too, but at times, the instrumental passages capture much of the motorik groove and crunchy aspects of Turkish psychedelia.   

That cultural crossover doesn’t seem to trouble the band. This isn’t building blocks placed together; more that Dasi have found commonalities and contiguities that make them work so wonderfully together, and not just in the complementary styles of the band’s three vocalists.
