New Music: Dreamwave – Murmers On The Dunes

Psych music with a garage twist and a very cinematic approach to lyrics, Dreamwave have a very explosive and eccentric sound.

Murmers On The Dunes from their new Drifter EP is a good guide to what the band does, and does so brilliantly: breaking genre conventions to ease the listener into a world of sonic confusion, one where psych and shoegaze are fused around some truly metal drumming. It’s the breadth and depth of what the band seamlessly blends into the mix that throws you, from Hawkwind to Glass Beads via Spacemen 3, like the downward-spiralling soundtrack to a forgotten Giallo classic.

Fans of fellow Bristolians Birdman Cult will appreciate the loose and louche attitude of Dreamwave, but if you’re into Osees or Frankie & The Witch Fingers, then this is also most definitely for you!
