New Music: Ductape – Evil Me
Turkish duo Ductape are at the forefront of Istanbul’s dark scene, and with every new release their international following grows ever larger. This month saw them drop their exquisitely drawn Echo Drama long player, and a real highlight is the doomy yet very danceable Evil Me.
The track invites favourable comparisons with the likes of She Past Away, Lebanon Hanover, and The Frozen Autumn, as in common with those groups, Ductape explore an underworld where post-punk, cold wave, and the darkest electronic pop meet.

Çağla Güleray’s vocals sound like they carry the weight of the world at times, yet carry hints of light and optimism about them. A cross between the dark majesty of Siouxie Sioux and the velveteen melancholy of Molly Nilsson, her vocal performance plays with and against the raw guitars and icy synths of the arrangement, transporting you to your very own emotional Tartarus.

They say about their third album, “Echo Drama typically means a dramatic situation that mirrors a past occurrence, referencing events within a cycle. The term can be used to observe the echoes of an event over a specific time period. It represents a concentration of our past releases; it echoes our past.”
Echo Drama was released on the 1st of March via Swiss Dark Nights and can be found in digital, CD, and vinyl versions over on Ductape’s Bandcamp page. The album is also streaming on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.

Ductape support Covenant in Istanbul on the 9th of March with lives dates in France and Germany over the coming weeks and months. For news on those live appearances, head to the duo’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
