New Music: Electric Guest – The Love On High

Moving ballad The Love On High signals a new album and American tour by pop-soul duo Electric Guest.

The duo – songwriter/producer Asa Taccone and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Compton – explore the indie side of their sound here, though the vocals never lose that soulful demeanour, and the arrangement always feels more intimate than anthemic.

The melody builds in keeping with the emotion of the lyrics; it ebbs around the chorus, giving the vocals and lyrics added weight and depth, glowing with love as it makes a place for itself in your heart.

Taccone says about The Love On High, which will also feature on their 10K album, “Most people aren’t privileged enough to get to the top of whatever hill they’re trying to climb only to find out it may not bring them whatever peace they thought it might. And even people who do end up at their mountain’s zenith don’t stop long enough to ask themselves if it was worth it.”

“The aspirations in all of our lives are so powerful that we end up chasing them regardless of what they actually bring us. We are all bowing down to something. Might as well attempt to get familiar with what that something is.”

To tie in with the single, the band has released a video featuring cameos from family and friends, including frontman Asa Taccone’s brother Jorma Taccone (SNL, The Lonely Island) and their parents, as well as Kacy Hill, NoMBe, Jordana and more.
