New Music: GAG SALON – Throwing Up

Londoners GAG SALON cite LCD Soundsystem and Captain Beefheart as influences, but their You Have Been Killed album also finds itself an indie-dance groove over its ten tracks.

Throwing Up exemplifies this, as the very English nature of the lyrics – talk of sausages and vomiting and some very private functions – and its idiosyncrasy give it a peculiar charm.

The song may seem surreal, but the funked-up take on indie carries faint traces of some 80s cult acts; The Fire Engines and Orange Juice come to mind, as the song’s sardonic side will never outweigh the urge to dance.

You Have Been Killed is out now, and can be heard on SoundCloud and Spotify, and is available on Bandcamp in digital format.

GAG SALON embark on a short UK tour in the coming weeks, with dates announced for Brighton, Oxford, Southampton, Bristol, and London – sadly these are their final ever live shows. For venue details, hit up the band on Instagram.
